On Saturday 15 March 2025, Arriva Rail London (ARL) operated a special London Overground service to London Bridge to support passengers affected by planned engineering works.

The service ran from West Croydon to London Bridge, replicating the success of a similar initiative on Easter Sunday 2024. Trains departed every 30 minutes, calling at all stations between West Croydon and New Cross Gate, before continuing to London Bridge—diverting from their usual route to Highbury & Islington.

The aim was to provide a convenient alternative for passengers needing to travel between south and central London during disruption.

ARL colleagues were present at London Bridge throughout the day to support customers, working alongside Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) teams who assisted with train dispatch.

To ensure route familiarity, GTR driver instructors joined ARL drivers in the cab between New Cross Gate and London Bridge, offering guidance and oversight.

Gunnar Lindahl, Operations Director at Arriva Rail London, said: “We are delighted to have provided our passengers with a seamless travel experience to and from south London into the heart of the capital, especially on a day when travel would normally be more challenging. This special service reflects our dedication to offering reliable and convenient travel options, even during planned engineering works. We look forward to exploring similar initiatives in the future.”

The collaborative effort highlights the role of operator flexibility and inter-company coordination in supporting passengers during network disruptions.
