East Midlands Railway (EMR) has provided essential travel tips to help passengers heading to Skegness this summer prepare for potentially busy services and ensure an enjoyable trip to the popular seaside town.
With Skegness remaining a key holiday destination, EMR expects significant passenger numbers and advises travellers to book their train journeys in advance. Currently, around 85% of passengers heading to Skegness pre-book their tickets, securing priority boarding and the best prices available. While advance booking isn’t compulsory, passengers without reservations risk being unable to board their preferred train during peak times.
Travellers are advised to arrive at Nottingham and Skegness stations at least 30 minutes before departure, where queuing systems will separate passengers based on reservations. Families are reminded that children under five travel free with a paying adult.
Passengers staying longer can benefit from EMR’s offer of complimentary vacuum packs to efficiently pack bulky bedding. These can be requested via EMR’s customer relations channels or their dedicated Skegness Summer webpage.
EMR will also operate additional direct bus services from Nottingham and Grantham to Butlins and Skegness from Friday 18 July until Friday 26 September on peak days, ensuring passengers have ample alternative travel options. These services feature accessibility provisions and comparable journey times to the train. Taxis might also be a cost-effective choice for groups of five or more travelling to Butlins, typically costing around £10 per trip from Skegness station.
Mobility scooter users are reminded to secure a travel permit before their journey, with temporary permits available at major stations including Nottingham, Derby, Leicester, Sheffield, and Lincoln.
Finally, EMR highlights local attractions suitable for all weather conditions, recommending indoor entertainment such as shows at Neverland Theatre and Wonder Circus during inclement weather, and suggesting advance bookings for the Skegness Pool & Fitness Suite for sunnier days.
