GB Railfreight (GBRf) locomotive 69014 has been officially named ‘EMD Longport’ during a special ceremony held at Longport. The naming was carried out by John Smith OBE, Chief Executive Officer of GB Railfreight, and Jonathan Caen, Director of Progress Rail UK.
The event also marked the unveiling of the locomotive’s distinctive new golden livery, celebrating the strong partnership between GBRf and Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD), a division of Progress Rail.
Attended by members of the maintenance and fleet teams from both EMD and GBRf, the naming reinforces a long-standing relationship between the two companies.
John Smith OBE, Chief Executive Officer of GB Railfreight, said:
“This is the fourth loco we have named on behalf of EMD which just goes to show the strength of the relationship our two companies share. A huge thanks to everyone here from EMD and we look forward to working closely with you in the future.”
The naming of EMD Longport is a tribute to the collaboration between locomotive manufacturing and freight operations teams, and highlights the vital role of Longport as a key site for maintenance and engineering support.
