Trenitalia c2c has extended its long-standing partnership with rail sector security specialist Amulet for another five years, with the option of a further two, reinforcing its commitment to safeguarding, social value, and reliable station security.
The collaboration, which began in 2011, originally focused on managing passenger safety and experience. By 2016, Amulet had taken over full security services across c2c’s 26 stations. The award-winning partnership – recognised with the ‘Partners in Expert Services – Public Sector’ accolade at the 2019 PFM Awards – continues to evolve, grounded in shared values and a strong focus on safeguarding.
Amulet’s security expertise, combined with c2c’s investment in internal safeguarding, including achieving White Ribbon accreditation and supporting industry-wide campaigns, formed the cornerstone of the new contract.
Rob Mullen, Managing Director at c2c, said: “Our partnership with Amulet and the work we have done together is something that we are very proud of at c2c. So, to confirm this new contract and commitment for the next five years is excellent news for our customers, colleagues and local communities.”
Kieran Mackie, Managing Director at Amulet, added: “Our partnership with c2c is a blueprint for what successful collaboration looks like. We’ve achieved so much together beyond what you would expect in a typical security contract.”
Iain Palmer, Head of Revenue Protection and Security at c2c, highlighted the importance of Amulet’s safeguarding focus: “Amulet has become an authentic extension of our internal team. Security is often about soft skills rather than enforcement, and our Amulet Officers excel in providing a safe, comfortable journey for passengers.”
One of the standout elements of the partnership is Operation Serrano – an intelligence-led initiative with 65 dedicated safeguarding officers focused on anti-social behaviour, child safeguarding, fare evasion and revenue protection. The project has seen impressive results in improving safety and customer reassurance across the network.
Amulet’s social value credentials also contributed to the contract extension, including local recruitment efforts, a transition to Employee-Owned Trust status, and extensive charitable fundraising. Together, c2c and Amulet have raised thousands of pounds for charities including the Craig Tyler Trust, Samaritans, and Railway Children.
New elements of the updated partnership include:
- RSAS training modules tailored to c2c
- Mental health first-aid programmes
- Deployment of Project Blueprint
- Introduction of Storm radio devices
- Use of Halo body-worn cameras for enhanced real-time security
The two organisations will also continue to uphold their shared commitments to community engagement and sustainability, including supporting volunteer programmes, security apprenticeships, green station spaces, and school safety education.
The extended partnership marks a renewed commitment to ensuring stations remain safe, welcoming environments for all, while deepening ties with the communities they serve.
