To mark 25 years of Transport for London (TfL), young transport ‘superfans’ aged 5 to 16 are invited to participate in a unique competition celebrating the capital’s iconic network.
The competition asks entrants to describe in 100 words or fewer why they are passionate about a particular part of the transport system—be it a favourite bus route, Cycleway, Tube line, or tram. Twenty-five winners will be selected to record special PA announcements celebrating TfL’s 25th anniversary, which will be played at London stations.
In addition to recording announcements, winners will be granted behind-the-scenes access to typically off-limits areas of the transport network, such as depots, control rooms, and infrastructure facilities relevant to their chosen transport mode. They will also receive a TfL goodie bag, including a commemorative TfL25 poster.
The competition is part of a broader celebration that has included musical performances at Liverpool Street station, a silver ‘TfL25’ roundel, and a poster campaign highlighting key milestones such as the Oyster card, the Night Tube, and the Northern Line Extension.
Andy Lord, London’s Transport Commissioner, said: “As we celebrate TfL’s milestone anniversary, this competition is a fantastic opportunity for children to share their stories with millions of people across the capital. These announcements will allow us to see the wonder of the city through children’s eyes—and might even inspire a future career in transport.”
The competition closes on Wednesday 23 April. Entries must be sent to [email protected]. More information is available on the TfL Travel for Life website.
TfL Travel for Life, delivered in partnership with the London Transport Museum, supports over 700 Gold-accredited schools in promoting sustainable travel and safer journeys. Over Easter, the museum will also host interactive events encouraging children to create their own transport inventions and explore the London Transport Museum’s Depot in Acton from 4–6 April—a rare chance to see behind the scenes of TfL’s vast historic collection.
