Avanti West Coast employee Mike Lowe is set to run the Wilmslow Half Marathon, aiming to raise funds for Glossopdale Community Defibs, a local campaign providing life-saving defibrillators.
Mike, a 55-year-old Learning and Development Manager, was inspired after a defibrillator saved one of his close friend’s lives in 2022. Since then, the community initiative has successfully installed 15 defibrillators across Glossopdale, including in sports centres, pubs, and local high streets, which have already saved another life.
Mike will participate alongside his 32-year-old son, Edward, marking his return to running events after previously competing around the UK. His goal is to raise £1,500, enough to cover the maintenance costs for all 15 defibrillators for one year. Mike has already raised £1,000, supported by colleagues from Avanti West Coast’s Talent Academy in Crewe, who created a giant defibrillator cabinet to encourage donations.
“I’ve personally witnessed the life-saving potential of defibrillators,” said Mike. “I’m incredibly proud of our community’s commitment to keeping these devices accessible. Every donation helps ensure we can continue providing immediate assistance during emergencies.”
