Customers travelling through Dewsbury, Grimsby Town, and Scunthorpe stations will soon benefit from a range of accessibility upgrades, as TransPennine Express (TPE) continues its mission to create a more inclusive railway network.
The improvements, which are scheduled for completion by the end of April 2025, are designed to make access easier and safer for all customers, especially those with reduced mobility or visual impairments.
At Dewsbury station, work includes the installation of new handrails and resurfacing of the north access ramp from Milton Walk. The steps from the ticket hall are also being upgraded with new handrails and anti-slip stair treads. Additional enhancements involve surfacing repairs to bridge landings, replacement cycle tracks on access steps, and the addition of tactile paving for visually impaired passengers.
Grimsby Town station will see its original footbridge steps fitted with new handrails, while the existing step risers and handrails will be redecorated, giving the station a refreshed appearance.
At Scunthorpe, accessibility improvements include the installation of new handrails and tactile paving on steps and zebra crossings to better support visually impaired travellers.
Chris Jeffery, Accessibility Lead at TPE, commented: “We’re always looking at ways to improve the accessibility of our stations to ensure that all customers can travel with confidence. These improvements at Dewsbury, Grimsby Town, and Scunthorpe will make a real difference for those who use these stations regularly.”
These station upgrades are part of a broader commitment by TPE to enhance the customer experience and ensure its stations meet the needs of all passengers.
